Where can learn to breed goats. I live in Tver, retired, in the summer I will live in the country. Before buying a goat, you need to learn how to feed and milk it. What feeds to buy and where? Tell me. (Helena)

Goat breeding is not only a very useful activity in all respects, but also very beneficial. Unlike a cow, a goat provides very nutritious full-fat milk, does not require a lot of space and is very unpretentious in feed. Today there are a huge number of different breeds, which differ not only in appearance, but also in the direction of productivity. For example, there are down animals, the content of which is slightly different from ordinary thrush. However, if you need a goat to get healing milk, then the most important rule in its maintenance is the right food and diet.

What to feed thrush?

Feed the goat is not so difficult, and anyone can choose the right diet. The basis of animal nutrition is vegetable fodder in the form of grain, succulent vegetables, hay, grass and tree branches. In the summer, goats are generally very simple to maintain, as they can do very well only with good pasture and a small feeding of grains and vegetables.

However, unlike a cow, a goat cannot exercise in one place, for example, when it is laid up. These animals are very selective in food, so they need some space for walking. If you have access to a small glade or meadow, the animal will always find suitable plants and shrubs. However, if you have only a small dacha or garden, it doesn't matter either. The animal is quite able to do affordable grass and a small feed from the garden.

Grain, vegetables, hay

So, like other pets, goats need concentrates, that is, in the grain. You can give them barley, corn, oats, bran, as well as cake and meal. Grain is best given in a rolled or slightly steamed form, so it is better absorbed. It will be very useful to drink from water with the addition of bran.

As for vegetables, almost all garden crops are suitable for feeding goats. These include beets, cabbage, carrots, tops, corn stalks, peas, melons. If in summer the main fodder is grass (per day up to 5-7 kg), then at any other time of the year goats eat hay, it is enough to put small armfuls in a nursery and to enclose as they eat. Also a great addition to the diet will be the twig feed, for example, they like verbal branches, birch, alder, poplar, linden, berry bushes, mountain ash and much more. Doing the pruning in the garden, do not rush to throw the branches, goats will fit cherry, pear, apple and other fruit branches.

As for food waste, many, for example, give cleaning from the table, crackers. This is permissible, however, often from the varied mixing of such cleanings milk may acquire an odor or an additional flavor.

Of the required mineral dressings, you will need a regular piece of chalk, salt-lizunets and bone meal. Flour can be purchased in any markets where they sell feed and various additives for farm animals. As for the other moments of feeding and the diet of goats, you can read them on our website.
