Hybrid chickens or cross more and more are gaining the attention of home farmers. One of these is the Redbro chickens, bred on the basis of the Cornish breed and Malay fighting birds. Although the breed is foreign, however, it gets along well in our climatic zones. Moreover, these chickens have many advantages over all broilers that are familiar to us. What exactly, let's understand together.

Breed description

Redbrough chickens are of English origin, although today the most advanced centers for their breeding are in France and in the United States. For example, this is the Hubbard company, which has been breeding Redbro M and C crosses for over 90 years. Our country, as well as the allies of the former post-Soviet space, Ukraine and Belarus are also actively engaged in breeding this breed. Everything is connected with its special productive qualities. But more on that later.

External characteristics

Immediately I must say that Redbrough chickens are very attractive in appearance. They are large with a large head and dense plumage. The layers have pronounced features: a clear short beak, a bright red comb of leaf-like or pod-like shape, bright ear lobes. Also, birds are well developed and visible muscles (a legacy of fighting ancestors), thick legs with developed metatarsus.

The most common color is red or red-brown. Although in rare cases there are white options, like chickens and cockerels.

Content Features

Very many private domestic farms get this foreign breed. The fact is that with high productive indicators, in the content, the birds are completely similar to our Russian domestic chickens. Redbro easily adapt to different weather conditions and climate, well perceive domestic food. Moreover, as practice shows, in our country these hens gain weight faster than in protein feeds abroad.

If you choose between breeds of broilers and Redbro, then experts advise to give preference to the latter. The fact is that today broilers have poor health, need vaccines and antibiotics, as well as a large number of feed. Gaining also fast weight chickens Redbro strong, resistant to disease, do not require a lot of feed and absolutely do not need vaccinations or antibiotics. But their meat taste is no worse than the usual broiler.

Productive qualities

As you already understood, Redbro cross breeds are birds of meat and egg type and it has a number of advantages. First, laying hens show good productivity - about 160 eggs per year. Some owners call the number even 280-300 eggs. Pullets begin to rush at the age of 5-6 months.

And secondly, Redbro give very tasty high-quality meat. The weight of the chicken on average reaches 3 kilograms, the rooster - 4-4.5 kilograms. The bulk is recruited by six months, so the meat turns out to be lean and fibrous. By gastronomic indicators, it belongs to the highest category.

Some important tips:

  1. Before you start this breed of chickens for productive production, you should be aware of some difficulties with the sale of products. The fact is that few people here know that Redbro is distinguished by delicious dietary meat. It is a bit fibrous, so when choosing consumers prefer a light soft broiler.
  2. When buying chickens and young animals, be vigilant, as many sellers can replace Redbro with regular domestic chicks. The price of pedigree is much higher, but it is almost impossible to distinguish babies before the first molt.
  3. There is no need to specifically "bother" about the temperature. Chickens live well at normal standard temperatures (+ 7-25 degrees).

Having considered all the qualities and characteristics of these layers, we can confidently say that Redbro is a good choice for getting tasty meat and eggs during the whole productive season.
