Hybrid rabbits jikol and hiplus belong to meat breeds. They are distinguished by precocity and high quality characteristics of the resulting product. However, by pairing them naturally, it is impossible to obtain purebred offspring. Let's try to understand all the advantages and features of these breed lines. Find out whether these hybrids are suitable for home breeding, and what special care they need.
A little historical background
So, rabbits hiplus and chikol are among the meat hybrids. Their ancestors were the best representatives of the California and New Zealand white breeds. Often the name "hiplus" is pronounced more softly "hiplus". And this is also true, it all depends on who reads the French Hy-Plus.
Breeders working on the creation of a new breed, based only on the best characteristics of the meat giants and added fresh genes to them. Due to this, new breed lines have unique qualities.
It took more than 10 years to work. Many characteristics have improved, including reproductive function. The number of baby rabbits in one litter was increased from 8 to 10-12 pieces. Young hybrids grow literally by the hour, adding 50-55 g per day.
As a result, the rabbits of the breeds hiplus or chikol at the age of 3 months already reach a body weight of 4 kg and are ready for slaughter. Slaughter yield - about 60%.
The most popular breeds are hiccol and hiplus among large European breeders. The fact is that growing these lines at home is not at all profitable. This is due to the need to feed animals with special feeds, the cost of which cannot be called low.
Another factor is the reproduction characteristics. For purebred individuals, the natural way of conception is not suitable. And artificial insemination is a costly procedure. The combination of these reasons makes the cultivation of meat hybrids beneficial only when it comes to large production scales.
Meat giants with light fur
Breed rabbits chikol refers to the meat direction. In the standards of the line there is no such characteristic as fur color. The description only contains information that all the ancestors who gave up their genes to create a hybrid, were distinguished by light fur.
Most often, rabbits jikol is white, gray or cream color. Also, representatives of this breed are characterized by the coloring of colorpoint - dark ears and spout against the background of snow-white wool on the rest of the body.
Standards breed Jikol:
- the head is light, small in size, with a slightly extended spout;
- ears roundish, mostly erect, height - no more than 12 cm;
- eyes set wide, color red, sclera white or white;
- the neck is short, medium thickness;
- the back is powerful, straight, with massive croup;
- front paws noticeably shorter than hind ones;
- belly slightly down;
- the tail is small, straight, with obligatory dark edging;
- body length - from 50 to 54 cm.
This breed belongs to the number of broilers. Youngsters aged 3-4 months reach a slaughter weight of 4.5-5 kg. But this is feasible only under the condition of proper nutrition, based on a special feed. Granulated concentrated feed must be of high quality.
In the trough, rabbits should always have fresh food in the right amount - the number of meals per day they can reach 60 times. But just such a good appetite is the key to rapid growth. At the same time, you should not be afraid of obesity - this disadvantage is unusual for these hybrids.
Purebred representatives of the breed Jikol can only be obtained by artificial insemination of the female. Cubs born from the natural mating of two bright rock specimens cannot be counted among its members. One female can bring 8-10 litters in 12 months. Then it is written off from the number of breeding individuals.
Today breeding representatives of the pedigree line chicol is engaged in the company "Hipfarm" from France.
Naturally, the purchase of such a hybrid is associated with substantial material costs, but it is a guarantee of the purchase of a purebred pedigree rabbit.
Unpretentious hybrids with valuable meat
The rabbit of the breed Hiplus has no pronounced external differences, using which one could distinguish it from other lines. The proof of authenticity is the document. In addition, there are official breed standards, which include:
- the body is almost regular cylindrical;
- hoisted relatively short, dense, powerful;
- head small, slightly elongated to the nose;
- the neck is short, smoothly turning into a powerful straight back;
- ears are spoon-shaped, low;
- small, oval-shaped eyes, pink or red, less often - brown color;
- The fur is short, dense, very thick.
As for the color, a species of the breed plays its role. Fur color can be white, black or gray, less often white with dark spots. A characteristic feature of this line is the coloring of colorpoint. Depending on the general color, the color of the coat on the nose and ears can be gray, white or black.
The growth rate of young stock is affected by the quantity and quality of feed. In comparison with the breed Jikol, described above, the representatives of this line have a great appetite. And grow somewhat faster. Daily weight gain is at least 55 g, which allows weighing more than 5 kg in 4 months. Quality meat yield - 60%.
The hiplus rabbit is a hybrid, therefore artificial insemination of females is used when breeding them. In one litter - 11-12 baby rabbits.
For a quick payback, a special scheme is used - exactly 18 days after the rabbit has been circled, they are re-inseminated and come back to the cubs. And after another 17 days, the rabbit animals are deposited in a special cell with a queen cell to produce a new offspring.
This scheme allows each female to bring 7 litters per year, giving a new offspring every 48 days.
The main condition for the use of this reproductive scheme is the timely replacement of breeding rabbit - each of them "serves" no more than a year.
As mentioned above, the breed hiplus has no direct external signs, so breeding individuals should be bought only from trusted vendors who provide all the necessary documents.
In addition, there are three varieties of this hybrid, differing in color:
- white giant;
- black giant;
- white standard.
Before buying expensive breeding individuals, it is important to inspect each of them. Sluggish behavior, hair on the skin and defects of the ears can indicate serious health problems. If you do not have enough experience for self-examination of animals, it is recommended to use the services of a qualified veterinarian.
Before you buy rabbits hiplus or chikol, you should accurately calculate all the costs of maintenance and nutrition of pedigreed animals. Good income is guaranteed only if these conditions are met.
