Every beginning farmer who decided to start breeding and raising chickens should know what a hen house disinfection is. After all, it is on this that the health of your hens depends. Naturally, experienced farmers are familiar with this concept, but not everyone performs the procedure correctly.

What it is?

Disinfecting a room that contains chickens and chickens is an extremely necessary procedure that needs to be done at least once a year. This procedure helps to reduce the number of diseases in chickens and chickens, and significantly improves the quality of the final product: chicken and eggs. And how often should it be held? Depending on the number of chickens and the size of the room, complete disinfection of the chicken coop should be carried out at least once a year. Deep preventive cleansing - at least once every six months. And ideally, the rehabilitation of such premises should be carried out every two months.

Why spend?

Chickens produce a large amount of litter. Naturally, all waste products in combination with the remnants of fodder, hay and feathers settle on perches and the floor of the chicken coop. In order to prevent diseases of chickens, as well as to ensure the healthy growth of chickens and the absence of a strong unpleasant odor, the hen house is being disinfected. It should be remembered that the immediate rehabilitation is carried out only after two preliminary stages: cleaning and washing.

Bacteria such as coccidia can quickly kill all livestock. Therefore, it is so important that the cleaning of the premises was carried out on time.

How to disinfect correctly?

Disinfection of household premises where chickens are held is carried out in the absence of birds. This is done primarily for the convenience of the poultry farmer. For such purposes, any owner of chickens should be equipped with a free warm and dry room in which chickens can wait out the disinfection period. It is necessary to clarify that to move the birds to a separate shed, to clean the old one, to occur only in the cold season, in spring or summer, they can just run around in the yard. After removing the birds from the room, you can start cleaning.

Cleaning the chicken coop - preparatory stage

It is necessary to clean the chicken coop in special clothes, which can then be washed or dry-cleaned. Work must be done with gloves and a protective mask to avoid inhaling dust and litter particles. To remove litter using a stiff brush, broom and dustpan. After scrapping the remains of the litter from the perches and the floor, the garbage is swept out of the room. The next stage of preparation for disinfection is washing the chicken coop with various preparations.

How to wash the chicken coop before sanation?

To clean the perches, walls and floors from dust, dirt and litter, you must use mild cleansers without a toxic effect. Seasoned poultry farmers are advised to use ordinary apple cider vinegar diluted in water at a ratio of 3: 2. Before cleaning the coop with apple cider vinegar, it is necessary to wash the walls and perches with ordinary warm water without additives, let the water drain and rinse everything again. Such a sequence of washing will guarantee deep cleaning and no odor.

The final stage of cleaning the coop - disinfection

Disinfectants must be selected, taking into account the characteristics of birds. Preparations containing chlorine disappear for a long time and can cause irritation of the nasopharynx in chickens. Some poultry farmers are advised to use only apple cider vinegar for disinfection. However, given the variety of diseases in poultry at present, the choice of disinfectant still remains with the owner of the hens. The products on the market differ in price and country of origin, as well as in terms of the volume of the finished detergent.

Formalin - yes or no?

A few decades ago, poultry farms actively used a solution of formaldehyde, formalin, for the rehabilitation of rooms in which there are chickens. However, in a small household, the use of formalin is a rather problematic procedure. Those who have already treated the premises at least once emphasize that formalin has a very sharp, corrosive odor, which is slightly felt even through a respirator. Therefore, it is necessary to treat the room with formalin in a special suit for chemical protection. In addition, in some European countries, formalin is listed as a carcinogen and is banned for use.

Lime disinfection

To disinfect the chicken coop, many farmers use lime, the old-fashioned way. She sprinkled the floor, and also applied to the walls of the room. But this method for processing at home, there are a number of its drawbacks. One of them is that it is rather difficult to calculate the concentration of a substance in order to obtain a clarified solution for application to the surface. In addition, it is still unknown how long the effect of such a drug is and whether it damages the bird.

Despite the unexplored effects on poultry, farmers at home often wake the floor with lime-powder, at the rate of 0.5-1 kg per 1 sq. Km. m

Quartz

One of the modern methods is quartz treatment with special lamps that produce ultraviolet radiation. It affects harmful bacteria, destroying them and cleansing the air. But with this method you need to be careful, disinfection using it in the presence of a bird is impossible. In addition, ozone given off by lamps is also harmful to chickens. Therefore, the bird must be aerated before the launch of the disinfected room.

In addition, it is also necessary to leave the hen house itself: during the operation of quartz lamps, you cannot be in the room. You can also not look at the working device - it is dangerous and can cause eye burns. It is also worth knowing that the room can be disinfected in this way only after the main cleaning, for example, using detergents.

Special means

To disinfect the chicken coop at home can be in other ways. So, iodine checkers are often used for air sanitation. They help to clean the chicken coop, even with chickens. To do this, in the premises being processed, they plug all the cracks, without expelling the bird, close it, and then light the sword. After 20-40 minutes, the cleaned coop is ventilated.

In addition, in industrial production, well-proven during disinfection works, such drugs as:

  • "Virotsid";
  • "Ecocide C";
  • Bromosept;
  • "Delegol".

How to keep a chicken coop in between cleaning?

A few simple tools will help maintain order in the hen house until the next cleaning, namely:

  • boards for collecting litter (located under the perches, easy to clean);
  • removable perches (easily removed and washed if necessary);
  • sand for sprinkling the floor (more convenient than pine shavings or hay);
  • a rag for wiping dust from the walls and perches (reduces the daily amount of dust in the hen house).

Disinfection of the chicken coop, carried out according to all the rules, will help protect adult chickens and chicks from diseases, for example, from coccidosis, and maintain the necessary level of cleanliness throughout the year. Currently, there are many sources, information from which will help to properly disinfect the place of residence of chickens and chickens. The training video on our website will also provide the necessary information to beginners and experienced poultry farmers.

Is it possible to disinfect in the winter and with the bird?

Sometimes there is a need to make treatment in the winter. In such a case, farmers are wondering how to do it right, and, preferably, not evicting a bird. Of course, it is qualitatively possible to wash and process a chicken coop in winter only if there is a warm room for temporary relocation of chickens. But you can spend and disinfecting "easy" cleaning, for example with the help of iodine gassing saber, in the presence of a bird.

In any case, if it is possible to clean the chickens more often, you should definitely use it. After all, in a nursery treated from bacteria and in a clean room, they will feel better, less sick, and therefore show the best indicators of egg production and weight gain.
