Chickens fall to their feet, what to do? - this question is quite common among newcomers to farming and poultry farming. In this case, the problem often arises very sharply, unexpectedly, and at the wrong moment.

Possible reasons

Many novice farmers, when chickens broilers fall to their feet, sound the alarm and think that their birds "crippled" some kind of terrible disease. Of course, this is also not an exception, but often this problem is connected with the banal lack of food components. That is, in other words, the first reason is poor nutrition, lack of vitamins and minerals.

  • Calcium deficiency. This is perhaps the most frequent case of why broilers, as well as all other chickens fall to their feet. In this case, it should be said that this and the simplest reason, since it is solved quickly enough.
  • Disease. This reason also occurs, but be careful: when the disease occurs in chicks, other negative symptoms, as a rule, appear as well as a case of falling on the legs. If the chicken fell on its back and cannot rise, it should be shown to a specialist. This may be an alarm.
  • Lack of Vitamin D. If your chicks live in a darkened room for a long time, they do not walk in the fresh air in the sun, lack light - there may be a lack of vitamin D. As a result, the chicks also fall to their feet.
  • Rickets. Such a disease is usually associated with poor feeding and knocks down almost all babies.

  • Limited space, cramped. Yes, this can also be. This, however, does not apply only to broilers kept for fattening. All other chickens must run and move actively. They need about 10 square meters per 20 individuals. A sedentary lifestyle leads to a fall on his feet.

As you can see, there are a lot of reasons. All of them are solvable, and the chickens quickly move normally again. However, if the chicken is properly cared for, properly fed and cared for, then the risk of such a problem is reduced to zero.

Methods for solving them

If your chickens are falling to their feet, and you have correctly established the cause of this phenomenon, start correcting the situation.

  1. If there is a lack of calcium, add crushed chalk to the birds ’diet. This is pure calcium, which will quickly fill the gap. Experts also recommend that in the first weeks of life, chicks should be fed with special purchased feeds. They contain a full range of essential substances and minerals, which ensures the normal development of chicks. Of course, such food is not cheap, but your kids will be healthy.
  2. Avoid improper chick maintenance. This includes low temperature, cell contamination, crampedness.
  3. Add to the feeder specially prepared ground egg shells.
  4. Include in your diet supplements, vitamins and greens. The best option would be nettle and alfalfa.
