What kind of animal dwarf pig? Let's find out how home piglets appeared and how interesting they are.
Where did it come from?
The modern dwarf pig is a descendant of German experimental pigs, bred back in the 50s of the last century in Germany. A small funny pig appeared as a result of the crossing of a Vietnamese vislobryu pig and a dwarf wild boar. Now the mini-pig is a pet and a favorite of children, but earlier some of the bred babies went to medical experiments. Currently, it is very popular in Europe, especially in Italy, France.
Little interesting about the breed
For many, the dwarf piglet remains exotic, and few of your acquaintances or friends can boast of having a domestic pig. Besides them, Russian breeders have been trying to withdraw micro pigs for several years. This is an even more miniature individual, which is similar in size to a puppy of a dwarf dog. Let's learn a little about the breed, how these funny pig kids look and eat.
Dwarf pig looks very cute, and the color is different. Dwarf piglets are red, black, white, brown, gray. There are even marble and brindle colors. It weighs depending on the breed from 20 to 120 kg.
The last weight category is more similar to ordinary pigs, but still belongs to the dwarf. They grow a little more than 3-4 years from the moment of birth, live about 10-15 years. Life expectancy in comfortable conditions may be longer.
There are no clear standards of appearance, since often different types of breeds intersect to breed a modern dwarf pig. The body of the dwarfs is small, with short legs, the head is of medium size, the fur, like that of ordinary piglets, is coarse, the hoof and tail are small.
The nature and behavior
Mini-pig is a wonderful companion, kind and cheerful animal, which is perfectly tamed and loves to sit on hands. As well as a cat, he understands affection perfectly, but he can be naughty, so pets must be raised. By the way, they understand the teams perfectly, they are well trained, they know the place. There is practically no smell from babies-gilts, besides they go to need a tray. Very playful, cheerful, but they can overeat, so you need to actively walk with your pet.
The dwarf piglet can be made as a pet for a child, the baby will enjoy his lovely, flexible, slightly mischievous character. In addition, they can not scratch or bite hard, like a dog or a cat. Do not buy too small mumps - perhaps this is the "marriage" of the breed. Alas, such a pet will not live long, will be sluggish and painful. The best option is not a pocket pig, but a small pet, which can be walked on a leash.
A few more features: dwarf piglets intensively molt, so if you or children are allergic to wool, you should not get such an animal. Sometimes they can gnaw furniture, legs of chairs and tables, they can show aggression towards strangers who want to stroke them.
Dwarf pigs are most suitable for keeping in a private house, where there is an open area to run. These pets are prone to obesity, so it is best to start the day and chat with them with a walk (jogging) in the garden or open area. He likes to run a race, roll in the grass and splash in the water. If the territory and possibilities allows, you can start a couple of such pigs. Then the content will be a little easier, because a couple of piglets will be more fun together.
In the summer, pigs can sleep on the terrace or in the summer kitchen, but do not keep pets in the draft. They adore cozy, warm, dry rooms, often sleep astride their host. They love to climb on the sofas and chairs, spinning under their feet when you cook in the kitchen. A pig should have its place, something like a dog. You can get for him a special soft basket or floor cushion.
Nutrition and care
Dwarf pig with pleasure eats fruits and vegetables, any cereal, cottage cheese, eggs, drinks milk and sour milk drinks. In summer, the basis of the diet should be such vegetables as cucumbers, potatoes, tomatoes, celery, onions. Also suitable carrots, turnips, radishes, radishes, various greens. Fruits can be given apples, pears, but you need to be careful with peaches and plums - they are weak. Food is prepared without salt and sweeteners, does not fry and does not add flavors, because it has an excellent sense of smell.
The most common dwarfs:
- Vislobryuhaya Vietnamese;
- Göttingen Pig (German breed);
- Bergshtresser Kniret;
- Minayyalino (does not enjoy success after the initial selection in Italy, since it breeds hard and suffers a lot).
