Overview

Many livestock breeders make a choice in favor of edilbay sheep, because these animals are very hardy, resistant to cold, heat and even to global drought. In the frosty winter nights they do not freeze in the stall, unless, of course, there is damp in the room. The ancestors of these sheep were nomadic, and therefore the best hereditary qualities were transferred to the modern representatives of the breed. Currently, the breeding of these animals is advantageous from the point of view of obtaining meat and wool.

The peculiarity of the wool of edilbayevsky sheep is that the famous Kazakh carpets are woven from it. In addition, residents of Kazakhstan and the Urals use the milk of these animals to make delicious homemade products from sour milk - cheese, ayran. Nevertheless, fat tail and high-quality meat - this is what the edilbayev breed is bred for.

Origin

The first edilbayevsky sheep were obtained by crossing Astrakhan rams and Kazakh fat-tailed sheep back in the 19th century. Because of these genetic factors, all members of this breed have a large fat tail, which, however, does not prevent them from actively grazing and searching for food. Currently, the breeding of this species goes in the northern and southern regions of Russia, in the Urals, in the Crimea. Traditional breeding continues in Kazakhstan, Tatarstan and Uzbekistan, Ukraine, as well as other regions of the European continent with mountainous terrain.

During the breeding season, the sheep most adapted to the nomad camp were selected, and then a herd was formed from them. Soon it became clear that the weight gain of edilbayevsky sheep does not depend on whether the grass is abundant on pastures. For a long time, animals were selected and bred in the area between the rivers of the Urals, and then spread throughout Russia.

Appearance

Eldibaevsky sheep are strong, with a well-developed fat tail, always horny. Sheeps can weigh up to 120 kg and at the withers grow up to 85 cm. The circumference of the middle sheep's chest is 100-105 cm. Colors: black, black and white, red, brown. By tradition, farmers believe that black-haired sheep are the most productive, prolific. Wool fiber length - 15 cm on average. Newborn lambs weigh about 5-6 kg, and at the age of one and a half years - already about 80-100 kg. Then they just get stronger or gain some more mass.

How to breed?

For the proper breeding of the edilbay breed, it is necessary to purchase breeding rams. The cost of one male sire can vary from 18 thousand rubles and above, but the costs are worth it. If the formation of the herd begins from scratch, they usually buy yarochek and sheep equally, adjusting the number of males and females as the population grows.

The case is made traditionally: when the sheep reaches puberty (8 months), the first pairing with a ram is carried out. Sheep sheep should be several times, occasionally resting. At night, the animals rest, then the procedure is repeated during the daytime. Male before pairing should be well fed and a few weeks before it should receive vitamins. A ram can make up to 7 bondings per day, but on the whole, three is enough to not tire the animal.

Pregnancy of a sheep proceeds 21 weeks. By the end of the period, the uterus usually begins to worry, especially nervous before lambing. In edilbayevskoy females usually born one lamb, childbirth is easy. Sometimes, if the fetal bladder is very dense, the veterinarian or the host host of the animals helps break it.

The room for lambing should be warm, dry, clean, the litter needs to be changed. The sheep should be trimmed around the birth canal and in the area between the hind legs. Duration of labor is about 40 minutes. After the release of the lamb, the breeder should not disturb the sheep, she will start caring for the baby.

  • edilbayevsky sheep selected by color (always choose black or black and white, or form a mixed herd, adding a little brown);
  • a herd is formed from two sheep and the same number (or slightly more) of sheep;
  • it is better to change the lambs for sheep of the same breed from other farmers or to sell so that there are a maximum of three breeding producers in the herd;
  • Lambs born between January and February are considered the strongest individuals;
  • lambing in summertime is worse, because summer lambs do not always have time to gain weight by winter.

According to them, they have the lowest bone mass at slaughter for meat, which increases the meat yield. In addition, animals are resistant to ice and snow crust on the winter pasture. An added bonus is the taste of meat. It lacks the characteristic lamb smell. From fat-tailed fat of edilbayevsky sheep and rams, lard is obtained without a sharp odor. The herd, according to the breeders, is formed highly productive, if you spend time on a couple of good breeding rams. From minuses - lower productivity is noticed at brown and red queens. Wool is tough, but for those who are not engaged on a large scale in its delivery, there is no point in worrying.
