Recently, farmers have started breeding nutria. It is quite interesting and profitable, because at low cost you can get high-quality fur and tasty meat. But the first thing a beginner has is the question: how to feed nutria at home? We will talk about this in our article.
What love to eat?
Feeding nutria is no different, because they are herbivorous animals. In the natural environment, they eat deep-sea as well as coastal plants. At home, you can feed animals with different aerial parts of plants, grain, succulent feed, and there are also specially designed feeds. A treat for all nutria will be corn cobs. With pleasure they eat and tops, and carrots, and Jerusalem artichoke. But the best are still feed aquatic terrain: reed, cattail.
Eating branches is very useful, as they sharpen their teeth. For this purpose, solid grain can also be applied. It is forbidden to feed pets with germinated potatoes and green tops of the same vegetable, as well as carrots. Of course, rotten products and poor quality should be excluded from the diet of nutria. In a familiar environment, they will never eat them.
What should be included in the diet?
Nutria hard to perceive the transitions in food. That is, feeding your pets should be on a certain diet, as stable as possible during all periods. These animals are lovers of the same type of food. You can give dried corn tops, potatoes or Jerusalem artichoke, parsnip, other bulplod. If possible, it is necessary to give what nutria eat in their usual environment.
They love young corn, but the cob is considered more good with already harder grains. In this case, additionally harvesting branches to sharpen teeth is not necessary. But you can not get involved. If you grow nutria for mating or they are already pregnant, then you should not overdo it with corn grain, as it causes obesity. Then the females will not be able to get pregnant or will give birth to dead puppies.
Feed the nutria and sugar beets. But during lactation you need to be careful with this product. A large amount of sugar that is contained here can block the mammary glands of females. The result is a hungry young. Pure raw fish and meat should not be included in the rations of this animal species.
Perfect for grains. It contains all the nutrients that nutria needs. So, 100 g of ordinary feed contains 290 kcal of exchange energy, 16 g of protein, calcium and phosphorus. In addition, such a mash for animals can be prepared at home. To do this, mix:
- 45% barley grain (or wheat);
- 40% corn (or oats);
- 8% of sunflower meal (either soybean or pea);
- 6% fish meal (or fodder yeast);
- 0.5% chalk feed and salt.
Experienced nutritionists recommend making pelleted feeds to improve the quality of the skins. One of these feeds consists of:
- 20% herbal flour;
- 18% of flaxseed meal;
- 17% wheat bran;
- crushed barley - 15% of the total mass;
- 15% dry beet pulp;
- 5% malt sprouts;
- 5% protein hydrolyzate;
- 2% crushed corn;
- 2% fish meal;
- 0.4% calcium phosphate;
- 0.2% multivitamin;
- 0.3% fodder chalk;
- 0.1 salt table.
Hay is the coarse food that animals need in the winter. It contributes to the revitalization of the gastrointestinal tract. Usually harvested hay of grasses, legumes and cereals, make sure that poisonous or chemicals treated plants do not get into the feed. So, it is forbidden to give poisonous milestones, white fighter, greater celandine, foxglove and hemlock.
It is also very useful to give branches of trees: acacia, willow, maple, fruit trees, birch. In winter, nutria will bite the bark from the trees, and in spring, the buds will bloom from young shoots. Very useful is the vine vine. It is rich in carbohydrates and water, that is, it can partially replace root vegetables.
As mentioned above, meat and fish nutria should not be given. So what then to do? Under natural conditions, these animals eat insect larvae, small mollusks and other similar food that swim in the water.
At home, all this can replace whole milk, whey, fish or meat, as well as blood meal, larvae and pupae of insects. Delicacy will be mollusk-toothless. This feeding nutria will give the body enough animal protein. Before serving this feed, you need to boil it and add a mixture of grain and potatoes there.
In order for the animal to have all the vitamins and minerals, you must add additional products to the rations. Salt and chalk should be given throughout the year. At the end of winter and in early spring, fish oil should be added to the rations. In winter, each individual should be given 2-3 g of yeast. Just before serving, be sure to boil them, otherwise they can cause fermentation of feed.
If you give fish meal, then you need to remove from the diet chalk, as well as salt. Otherwise, the ratio of calcium to phosphorus in the body will be disturbed, which in turn will lead to the emergence of various diseases.
