It is no secret that rabbits are very vulnerable and susceptible to various viral and infectious diseases. As farmers themselves say, it is because of these diseases that a large mass of young and adult individuals are often lost. The danger of many infections lies in their vitality and resistance. Even without getting inside the body, they can exist on the surfaces of inventory, in cells, thereby representing a danger to each new generation of residents. In this case, disinfection of cells for rabbits is not just a necessity, but an extremely important and mandatory procedure.

Why disinfect?

We will not particularly focus on this issue, since, we hope, it does not arise for many. We can only say that disinfection is the surest solution for preventing the disease of your eared pets. On farms and large livestock farms such a procedure is carried out according to the plan, taking into account the peculiarities of production. At the same time, not only the cages themselves are disinfected and processed, but also the equipment and premises where animals are kept. This necessary event must become a habit and every rabbit breeder.

Planned prophylactic cell disinfection should be carried out twice a year, for example, in demi-season. This procedure is obligatory before the transfer of the young, before the rabbit, and after the disease of the animals.

How and what to process?

Before disinfecting the cells, it must be thoroughly cleaned of bedding, litter, dirt and debris. Walls, floor, ceiling - everything should be clean and smooth. For disinfection, we will need brushes, a broom, a scoop for collecting debris, a bucket or box, a scraper and the preparation itself, and a container for spraying. But it is also possible to carry out the firing of the cage and inventory, as an alternative method to chemical preparations. So, today the most well-known and most popular disinfectants are:

  • Glutex;
  • Virocid;
  • 5% alcohol solution of iodine;
  • Bromosept -50;
  • Virkon S;
  • Ecocide C.

If you do not really trust such purchased drugs, you can choose any popular folk method, for example:

  • burnt lime;
  • firing by fire;
  • hot liquor treatment;
  • whiteness treatment.

Roasting - simple and effective

Firing is perhaps the most affordable and very effective way to disinfect rabbit cells. This procedure can be done after some kind of disease of animals, or just before jigging. No infection and its larvae will resist the fire, so this method is very effective. All you need to do is clean the rabbit cages, and then process it with a blowtorch or a gas torch.

Do not be alarmed if your rabbit houses are made of wood, because even this material can be treated with fire. The procedure lasts a few minutes until a light brown shade of wood appears. But the inventory of ceramics, glass or metal is better to boil rather than burn. Pre-clean and well wipe all surfaces of the rabbit house.

When working with fire, you need to be extremely careful, follow the rules of personal safety. Keep flammable objects away from treated rabbit cages!

Preventive disinfection

Prophylactic treatment of rabbit cells should be carried out according to the following scheme:

  • cages for adults and enclosed spaces for their maintenance are disinfected once a year;
  • queen cells - 2 weeks before and after the transfer of the young;
  • the rabbitks twice a year and after each seating.

It is important not to forget that it is always easier to spend a little time and effort on thorough disinfection than to treat or even lose animals. Since many infections are very resistant to external factors and can maintain their activity for more than one week or even a month, you should never settle animals in unprocessed houses. Also, do not rush to sit down to the newly acquired animals that already exist, soak them in quarantine for several weeks.

For prophylactic disinfection, rabbit cells can be treated with either fire or any available chemical agent. For example, bleach has gained widespread popularity in private households. It is used in the form of a 10% solution, which is applied with a wide brush to all cell surfaces. Ash liquor can also be used, which removes pathogens and viruses. For simplicity and convenience, chemical products can be bought ready-made in veterinary pharmacies.

Particularly popular was aerosol disinfection with 40% formaldehyde solution, which is diluted at the rate of 10 ml per 1 m3. It is desirable that before processing the humidity in the room was not lower than 60%, and the air temperature is above 15 degrees. If the humidity is lower, you can pre-spray some clean water into the air. The solution is applied to the surface of the cell, as well as the entire inventory with the help of a spray gun. After that, you need to well ventilate and rinse with clean water.

After illness

Disinfection of rabbit cells should be carried out necessarily if an infectious disease has been detected on the farm. Also, this procedure is carried out after the death of the animals. The methods and drugs chosen depend on the type of illness and the materials available. Consider the most basic.

  1. Salmonellosis - it is good to use 2.5% caustic hot sodium, 2% formaldehyde solution, 20% hydrated lime infusion, 3% chloramine when processing after this disease. For solid surfaces means are taken at the rate of 1 meter square. 1 liter. We repeat disinfection every 5 days.
  2. Staphylococcus - when disinfecting cells after and during this disease, use 4% formaldehyde, 2% chloramine or 8% damp. When aerosol treatment is taken 25% formaldehyde solution per 1 cubic meter of 20 ml at a shutter speed of 3 hours.
  3. Pasteurellosis - 20% fresh lime, 0.5% formaldehyde, 2% chlorine solution, hot 2% xylon naphtha.
  4. Listeriosis - soda ash (hot solution 16%), 20% formaldehyde. Use every 10 days until complete elimination of the infection.

After the destruction of the infection, as well as the removal of quarantine from the farm, it is necessary to disinfect rabbit cages, as well as the inventory. For this room and the houses themselves are thoroughly cleaned, washed with hot water all surfaces with the addition of 1.5-2% soda ash. For the treatment itself, all the same means are used as for the current disinfection for a specific disease. Only after final processing and complete drying in the cages can rabbits run.
