Measure the weight of the pig according to the table

The actual task of a small pig farm is how to determine the weight of a pig without weights, because in the conditions of a private household it is not always easy to weigh large animals. Farmers out of the situation, using special tables or simple formulas. They were developed by experts and allow to do the necessary calculations with minor errors. These skills will help you choose the best rations for growing pigs at every stage of their development.

Importance and methods of measuring piglet weight

When growing meat, bacon or sebaceous pig breeds, the owner of a private farm should control the weight of the pig. With this is directly related to the change in the diet, the dosage of veterinary drugs. Most accurately determine the live weight of pigs can be weighed. Below, we will figure out how to measure the weight of a pig, without having on the farm special cargo weights.

Often, for this purpose, use the table to measure the weight of pigs. Standard numbers are already included. But in order to use them you need to make the right measurements of the animal. They take measurements of body length, the circumference of the sternum. The tape measure is placed horizontally from the middle of the neck to the end of the tail, and also vertically from the posterior corners of the shoulder blades around the sternum. Based on these data, determining the weight of a piglet is easily carried out using special formulas, coefficients.

How to use the table

Indicators of average live weight directly depend on body size, which is different in females and males. These parameters are influenced by age and breed. Among the largest breeds of European pig-breeding, the English white pig, Duroc, and Landrace occupies the central place. According to the measurements of the body, their ratio, which are used in the table for determining the weight of pigs, the approximate weight in kilograms is noted.

It is easy for any person to understand how a pig’s weight without weights can be recognized from the table. For example, if a piglet’s body length is 70 cm, and the body circumference is 84 cm, then the approximate animal weight is 41 kg. Thus, an approximate determination of the mass of a pig from measurements is easy to carry out.

To find out the live weight of a pig more accurately, additional methods of calculation are used.

Use the formula and the table of weight gain of young animals

You can calculate the mass using a simple formula. In this case, measurements of the length of the body and chest girth of a pork individual will also be required.

It is enough to multiply the indicators obtained as a result of measuring the body of an animal, and then to divide the resulting work by the coefficient of nutrition.

At the same time, the last indicator is determined purely visually. For example, a lean pig characterizes k = 162; well-fed - k = 156; thicker - k = 142.

To find out the real weight of pigs, age norms of body weight gain are also widely used. Such ratios are reflected in a special pig weight table. Her data is adjusted according to the results of the control measurement of animals.

We present a table of average weights for piglets of different ages:

Thus, the use of an indicative table is another way to find out the weight of a pig without weights. In this case, the measured indicator is determined on the basis of the norms of age gain. To find out the exact mass of pig young, it is recommended to carry out control weighing.

Piggy classification by fatness

How much a pig weighs directly determines not only its size, but also fatness.

Depending on the state of health of a piglet, five groups are distinguished according to this indicator:

  • bacon young growth up to 8 months with weight from 80 to 105 kg and body length from 1 m (fat thickness between 6 and 7 vertebra is 1.5-3.5 cm);
  • meat variety of piglets weighing 60-130 kg and bacon thickness 1.5-4 cm, as well as gilt with a live weight of 20-60 kg and fat thickness of 1 cm;
  • fat boars, sows with a thick layer of fat 4.1 cm;
  • hogs and pigs heavier than 130 kg with lard 1.5-4 cm;
  • pure milk piglets.

In addition, according to the degree of fatness, slaughter animals are divided into bacon, greasy, semi-bodied, ham, meat categories. Bacon species include castrated boar, pigs up to 110 kg, aged 6-10 months, which have a rounded body with a long back and a flat line of the abdomen. The fat of such animals is hard and thick.

Lardy categories of boars, sows are distinguished by a layer of fat more than 7 cm, an even body, and a broad back. Semi-pigs have the same external signs, but a thinner layer of fat. Ham breeds are even less thick, and their processes are palpable slightly. Meat-fed pigs have a thin layer of fat up to 3 cm.

Set the weight of the pig at age norms

The surplus weight of piglets depends on external and internal parameters. Feeding patterns and housing conditions are important external factors. In addition, pigs of different breeds give birth to babies of various sizes.

The determination of the weight of pigs on the table gives a complete picture of the dynamics of the process. Under favorable conditions, two-month pigs weigh 20-25 kg, and in 6 months their weight exceeds 100 kg. Knowledge of these indicators allows you to control the correctness of the diet.

In addition, determining the weight of a pig in size is the basis for calculating the slaughter of meat. Of the 100% of the mass of the slaughtered animal bone is 10%, fat - 20%, meat - 70%. Thus, it is important to control the pork mass at each stage of fattening, focusing on the final result.
