In farms feed for piglets is used as one of the main sources of nutrition. Proper use of food resources directly affects the growth of animal mass and determines the quality characteristics of meat. At the same time, products should be of high quality, and the entire diet should be balanced. They should be selected on the basis of the age characteristics of pigs. And for the young, this aspect plays a decisive role.

Some features of feeding pigs

The digestive system in piglets is characterized by increased sensitivity, therefore, the requirements for the quality of feed are higher than for adults. Immediately after the birth of a piglet, the decisive days for its development come in many ways. The use of the correct feed makes it possible for the baby to gain weight in the future and to benefit from its content.

Newborn individuals should not be given coarse food. In order to obtain in sufficient quantity all the elements and substances they need that gave birth to sows are transferred to a special diet. Thanks to this kind of feed intended for lactating pigs, their milk contains all the nutritional components obtained by the piglets.

On the nutrition of nursing pigs, read the article "Feeding a sow."

Milk alone is not enough for good nutrition, so by the end of the first week of life, the youngsters are given feed crumb, gradually moving to the prestarter for the pigs, and then the starter. For pigs of 2 months of age, the use of granulated feed is permissible. Upon reaching the age of 4 months by gilts, you can switch to full-fattening.

The use of special feed mixtures allows youngsters not only to get all the necessary nutritional elements, but also reduces the risk of poisoning and various failures in the digestive system. You can get acquainted with the peculiarities of adult nutrition in the article "On feed for pigs".

About types of feed

Today, farmers offer a huge number of different feed mixtures, which are easy to get confused, especially for the beginning breeder. Their main difference is associated with the age characteristics of pigs.

By appointment, feed are divided into full and concentrates. In the first case, we are talking about mixtures that can fully meet all the needs of the pig in nutrients. Sphere of use are often large farms, where the herd productivity is at the forefront.

Concentrates contain vitamins, minerals and proteins necessary for the body of the pig.

Supplements and concentrates selected on the basis of pig age will contribute to maximum efficiency. In the first 35-40 days of life, piglets prefer prestarter feed. It reduces stress in weaned individuals and contributes to good weight gain.

When the pigs reach a weight of 10 kg, they switch to a starter, which has all the necessary amino acids, vitamins, essential oils and grain components. After overcoming the threshold of 25 kg, the addition of Grover is given, and with the weight of a pig in 50 kg - the finisher. The main feature of these types of feed is that their composition helps to quickly gain weight due to the ingestion of the animal complex of the necessary substances and elements.

The composition of feed for piglets

Feed the pigs can be either dry or wet. In the second case, the percentage of moisture should not exceed 70. In addition, the mixture should be moistened immediately before the start of feeding.

The composition of feed for piglets is characterized by the fact that it focuses on grain, they make up at least 50% of the feed. In addition to them, legumes, meat and bone meal and soybean meal should be present.

Of the cereals included in the feed for young stock, it is necessary to separately distinguish:

  • Barley is the most valuable source of energy (its effect on the health of a pig is very great, it is given in a purified form, because its husks are not needed by the pigs);
  • oats - a source of fiber (helps in the period of weaning the young from the sow, promotes the growth of the mass of piglets);
  • wheat - contains the amino acid lysine (well influences the nutrition of suckling piglets and those who are growing);
  • corn is another source of energy (rich in fats and carbohydrates).

It is important to remember that it is not recommended to subject the compound feed to heat treatment due to the cereals it contains. This is due to the fact that the use of enhanced heat will adversely affect the nutritional value of the feed.

The table shows the standard version of the composition of feed intended for piglets of one month of age:

Feed your own hands: the pros and cons

Buying a ready-made feed solves a lot of problems for a farmer who breeds pigs. However, everything is not as simple as it may seem at first glance. First of all, high-quality full-feed is not cheap.

If it comes to breeding the whole herd, then feeding it with compound feed flies in a decent amount. The use of cheaper analogues carries the danger of the absence of some of the necessary components in the mixture or replacing them with less useful and productive ones.

The solution may be cooking food with your own hands at home. Financially, this option is more profitable, but the main problem may be access to food. The absence of any important elements will negate all the advantages of home cooking, so here you need to carefully weigh and think over everything.

It should be remembered that reducing the quality of nutrition of piglets will adversely affect their health, reduce the rate of weight gain and adversely affect the productivity of the farm.

Recipe for mixed fodder

It is optimal for young animals to use mixed feed of fine grinding, brought to a state of thick gruel. This option is optimal from the point of view of the rapid and complete assimilation by animals of all substances and elements entering their organism. Obligatory condition is observance of temperature condition - feeding of pigs with food below 35 degrees is unacceptable.

The basis of the feed will be cereals, fatty feed and yeast, as well as chalk with salt. After washing and drying the croup, they should be detailed first, using, for example, a grinder. Then add the rest to the resulting powder. The proportions are shown in the table above.

In the process of preparing the mixture, it must be thoroughly mixed. Then warm water is added, and the mixture is adjusted to the desired consistency (like dough). This variant of the feed can not be attributed to the number of complete, rather, we are talking about concentrate. Therefore, in the resulting mixture, you must add other elements, such as legumes (6 to 15% of the total), meat and bone (up to 4%) and grass meal (up to 12%).

All together it is ground in a meat grinder and dried. The resulting granules look like food from the store. In this form, it can already be given to its piglets, without fear for its impact on their health and digestion.

The main requirement for any mixed feed, even if purchased, even though independently prepared, is respect for the proportions in its composition. This aspect must be monitored, otherwise there can be no question of the full growth and development of pigs, let alone increasing the productivity and fertility of these animals.
