Prevention and treatment of helminthiasis requires the use of various drugs for worms for pigs. Along with folk remedies that are effective in deworming several piglets, excellent indicators in industrial conditions are demonstrated by drugs of a wide spectrum of action. Apart from them stand "Alben" with the active substance Albendazole and "Levamisole" (levamisole hydrochloride).
Helminth infections require timely treatment
Pigs do not differ cleanliness. They love to dig in the ground, eating the roots and insect larvae found there. Together with them, eggs and larvae of various helminths that can parasitize in the body for several months or years get into their bodies.
Ascarids, nematodes, cestodes, and trematodes not only absorb nutrients from the host's organism, but also infect it with toxic products of their vital activity. As a result, the pig becomes weakened, loses appetite and slowly gains weight.
Such manifestations as vomiting, diarrhea or constipation weaken the animal, and in some cases are the cause of its death. In this case, the meat of sick animals is unfit for human consumption.
Planned deworming, carried out at the same time for all inhabitants of the pigsty, will help you maintain the health of the livestock of pigs and make a profit, which was expected when you started to engage in pig breeding.

Traditional methods of treatment of helminthiasis
For the prevention of helminthiasis at home, you can use garlic, adding it to the feed at the rate of 1 g per 1 kg of live weight of the pig. Worms do not tolerate the effects of tansy, onions, radishes, fresh horseradish, carrots, beets and pumpkin seeds, which farmers can add to piglet food.
With respect to intestinal nematodes and lamblia, the celandine is very effective, from which alcoholic tincture is made. 2 drops of this tincture diluted with 2 tablespoons of water, and the liquid is preferable to pour into the mouth of a pig 3 times a day.
You can add this tincture to the drinker, but then the effectiveness of the treatment will be slightly lower.
Celandine has a huge advantage over other medicinal herbs. The therapeutic effect of its biologically active substances begins immediately and destroys the eggs of parasites.
To combat the parasites of the band is preparing a decoction of pre-dried inflorescences and St. John's wort leaves. It is brewed at the rate of 2 tablespoons of dry matter per cup of boiling water. Cooled drink should be given to the pig 2-3 times a day before meals.
Destruction of worms with the help of medications
In industrial conditions, the use of traditional methods of treatment and a variety of infusions does not make sense, because it is a very expensive pleasure. It is much more expedient to give pigs drugs for worms that affect eggs, larvae and adult worms.
One of the most effective broad-spectrum drugs is "Alben", which is available in the form of tablets, convenient for adding to feed for pigs.
Its active substance albendazole, constituting 20% of the tablet, paralyzes the vital activity of sexually mature and immature nematodes and cestodes, as well as sexually mature trematodes, freeing the body of pigs from worms.
The action of the active substance violates the carbohydrate metabolism of parasites, leads to their instant death and removal from the body of the pig along with urine or fecal masses.
In veterinary medicine, this drug is classified as a moderately hazardous medical device and can be used only by a specialist’s prescription in strict accordance with the recommended dosage.
Use for the prevention and treatment of "Albena"
For the prevention and treatment of helminthiasis use "Alben" for pigs. Instructions to the package must be attached. The drug is produced in the form of tablets, each of which weighs 1.8 g and contains 0.36 g of albendazole.
"Alben" is packaged in blisters of 25 tablets, and packed in cardboard boxes containing 1.2 or 4 plates with tablets. The drug can be sold in jars for 25, 50, 100 or 200 tablets, and some manufacturers produce it in the form of pellets packed in plastic jars with tight lids.
Store the drug should be in the original packaging of not more than two years from the date of production, keeping the temperature from zero to +23 degrees Celsius.
Give it at the rate of 1 tablet per 30-34 kg of animal weight. It is extremely important to observe this dosage in the treatment of suckling piglets.
Compliance with the pre-starvation diet and the use of laxatives is not required.
Prevention of worms with the help of "Albena" is recommended to be carried out at least twice a year, at the same time adding the drug to the feed of all the inhabitants of the pig farm.
To approach treatment comprehensively
At observance of the dosages specified in the instruction any side effects in the pigs subject to deworming are not noted.
Instructions for use of this drug categorically prohibits giving tablets from worms to females during hunting and in the first third of pregnancy, exhausted and lactating sows, as well as to pigs suffering from acute fasciolitis (liver damage).
In large pig farms it is advisable to use cheaper packaging in the form of pellets. The active substance is added to the feed at the rate of 160-200 g per pig. First, 5-10 piglets should be treated, and only after that they start treating the main herd.
After the planned treatment of worms in pigs, you need to observe them for several days. In the absence of signs of helminthism, the fattening pig or adult can be sent for slaughter no earlier than 7-14 days after deworming.
In the case of forced slaughter of pigs associated with the spread of the source of a dangerous infectious disease, meat of pigs that have not withstood this period is not recommended to be eaten. Carcasses are sent to the production of meat and bone meal, as well as animal feed.
Other drugs for the destruction of internal parasites
Worms in pigs can be destroyed and other veterinary drugs, which enjoy great success with the pig. These drugs include:
- not having contraindications "Fenbendazol";
- "Baimek", which is injected subcutaneously weakened animals and nursing sows;
- injections from worms "Dektomaks" that protect the body of a pig from parasites within 28 days;
- synthetic drug "Levamisole".
Remember that the dosage of injectables is prescribed exclusively by the veterinarian, who carefully examines the pig, determining its endurance and ability to transfer an active ingredient.
In some cases it is advisable to use "Abictin". This powder is packaged in plastic bags of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 500 g. It is convenient to use it in medium-sized pig farms for the preventive de-worming of the livestock of pigs.
Depending on the type of parasites found, the piglets from the worms need to add to the feed from 6 to 10 mg of “Abictin” per 1 kg of live weight. Overdose is very dangerous for animals that are depleted.
It is strictly forbidden to give this medicine to pregnant sows later than 2 weeks before the start of lactation. Slaughter of pigs is allowed only after two weeks after treatment.
Injection "Levamisole" for large and medium-sized pig farms
Levamisole, which comes in the form of a solution for injection, is very popular with professional pig producers. This drug contains the biologically active substance levamisole hydrochloride, which causes paralysis of muscles in roundworms.
Parasites die within hours. They are detached from the intestinal walls and removed from the body along with fecal masses, without causing any inconvenience to the pigs.
"Levamisole" is an excellent immunomodulator, which is perfect from worms for piglets of different weight and age, at the same time it strengthens their body.
The medicine helps the pig to produce additional numbers of immune cells that allow it to fight off a variety of infections.
Each treated pig should be pierced with Levamisole in strict accordance with the recommendations indicated in the description of the medicine.
Correctly calculate the dosage of medication.
For piglets and pigs weighing up to 150 kg, the dose of "Levamisole" is chosen on the basis of 0.75 ml of solution per 10 kg of live weight. For every 50 kg additionally select 3.5 ml of the drug.
The drug is injected intramuscularly, and if necessary, enter more than 15 ml, the pig is pricked in different places.
The injection is usually done in the posterior femoral muscle group or shoulder. It is very difficult to make an injection to an older and stronger piglet with a conventional syringe and injection needle, since it will break free and may be injured. At home, the animal must first be fixed, and in large pig-breeding complexes special pneumatic pistols are used, which inject the medicine almost instantly.
With the observance of the dosage side effects are not observed, although the sow in the last weeks of gestation is better not to prick this drug.
It is not recommended to kill productive animals within 8 days after the vaccination, as their body may contain Levamisole decomposition products that may adversely affect human health.
How to treat sows
A big problem for the livestock breeder can be infection with worms from a sow that bears a young. Some farmers consider the use of drugs in such a period is quite acceptable, because the worms developing in the body of a pig negatively affect the health of her and future babies.
Various medications are forbidden to enter into the body of such a pig in the first or last months of pregnancy, as well as during lactation. Therefore, first carefully study the instructions for use of the medicine.
Be sure to consult with the veterinarian, who will determine the stage of development of the disease, and make an informed decision about the need for treatment in this situation. If the parasite has reached puberty, then such a helminth should not be allowed to lay eggs, and without treatment can not do.
Injections are not recommended.
At home, traditional methods can be used to treat pregnant pigs by adding garlic and other plants mentioned above to their food.
The piggy infected with worms must be transferred to quarantine content without fail. To do this, use a separate pen, which requires daily cleaning and disinfection.
For the sow, it is required to separate a separate drinker and a feeding trough to which the drugs are added. It is best to refrain from injections, which can cause an infection in the body of an animal.
In large pig farms, this approach is disadvantageous and is not used. Due to the careful observance of sanitary and hygienic standards and timely vaccination of repair pigs, they almost never become infected with helminthiasis and do not require assistance.
Otherwise, treatment is carried out, after the quarantine period expires, mumps is rejected.
