On pig farms for the prevention of various diseases, vaccination of pigs should be done from an early age. Vaccination will help grow healthy and strong animals. This procedure will significantly strengthen the immune system of young individuals. If these principles and norms are ignored, farm owners will suffer considerable losses from permanent diseases in pigs. In the article we will understand what types of vaccines are required for babies immediately after birth.
Conducting compulsory vaccination of newborns
In the case of industrial farming, farm owners need to take care of compulsory vaccination of newborns. Many of the required vaccinations for piglets from birth, the owners do on their own or seek the help of doctors. Before you begin vaccinating young stock, it is necessary to carefully study all the features of each of the breeds contained in the pig farm.
Vaccination of animals can be carried out both independently and by signing a contract with a specialized veterinary institution, where the young animals are vaccinated by a doctor. Next, we analyze what vaccinations do piglets and at what age. The vaccination scheme depends on the situation in your area. The veterinarian will advise how to properly organize the necessary sanitation in the working environment. Thus, it will be much easier for the farmer to understand the issue of immunization of pigs.
Animal Inoculation Scheme
To vaccinate animals is necessary to ensure the normal state of their body and stable growth. Therefore, vaccinations do piglets from birth. This helps prevent the occurrence and stop the development of a variety of dangerous diseases.
It is mandatory to vaccinate newborn piglets against iron deficiency anemia, erysipelas, worms, rickets, salmonellosis, plague, streptococcosis, colibacillosis, pasteurellosis, as well as other types of infectious and viral diseases. Juveniles rather easily tolerate this inoculation.
For farmers, we offer a table of vaccinations for piglets from birth at home, recommended by leading experts in the field of veterinary medicine:
For convenient use of the table, a list of vaccinations is placed in chronological order, and vaccines are used as animals mature. This immunization plan is designed for implementation on an industrial farm.
After birth, the body of piglets must be strengthened so that you can put an injection. Before grafting, animals need to undergo deworming. Vaccinations of newborn individuals begin no earlier than 3 days after birth. Weak and sick animals do not immunize.
Before using vaccinations for animals, owners of pig farms should adhere to the following rules:
- vaccinate completely healthy pigs (if the pigs are sick, they should be treated with serum and antibiotics);
- Store vaccines for pigs should be only in cool places;
- strictly observe the dose specified in the vaccine instructions;
- choose the right place on the body of the animal for vaccination.
As for the last point, for example, if the recommendations indicate to introduce a vaccine under the skin, then, accordingly, such an injection should not be given intramuscularly.
To escape from anemia
Grafting with a solution that contains iron is one of the first after a pig is born. In pig farms, an injection is performed on day 4 after birth. Farmers inject the vaccine into animals with their own hands, taking into account the recommendations of experienced doctors. Such a procedure is carried out to prevent iron deficiency anemia.
More often than not, 2 ml of Ferramenimal is used for one newborn. Prick vaccine is required for the ear daily. Animals are vaccinated for 3 days at the same time of day.
For the treatment of iron deficiency anemia, together with vaccination of small individuals, it is necessary to introduce into the daily diet 1.5 g of copper sulfate and 15 g of ferrous sulphate solution. The substances used should be diluted in 1 liter of water and given to animals 5 ml each day, and adult pigs should be watered with a solution from a trough.
Vaccinating animals against the plague
The most common and deadly disease is the plague. This infection is caused by a virus capable of hitting up to 95% of non-vaccinated piglets. It is very dangerous for pigs and boars. You can prevent death by vaccination. Vaccinating young animals is carried out after 40 days, and after 90-100 days of life revaccination is done. This procedure must be performed annually.
For vaccination use one of these drugs:
- VGVKI virus vaccine;
- Virusvaktsina LK-VNIIVViM.
For pigs, use 2 ml of a solution of a non-concentrated vaccine "KS". The animal must be pricked intramuscularly in the inner surface of the thigh or in the lower third of the neck. A dry avirulent lipinized vaccine "ABC" is used for immunization of young stock in pig breeding.
When an outbreak of infection requires an additional vaccination of each pig with a concentrated solution of "COP", not taking into account the previous vaccination.
Preventive measures against worms and pseudo-madness
Vaccination of pigs from worms is mandatory. Parasites can cause a number of dangerous diseases in animals. They disrupt the gastrointestinal tract and interfere with the normal weight gain of the piglets.
Inoculation of animals is carried out 8 days after birth. Today sold a lot of antihelminthic drugs. Before purchasing a product, be sure to consult a veterinarian.
Of particular popularity among farmers are foreign medicines "Dektomaks" and "Panacur". Enter drugs performed with strict compliance with the instructions. For highly effective deworming it is better to use a single remedy. After 2.5 months, this procedure should be repeated.
Aujeszky's disease (pseudo-madness) often ends in the death of piglets, so they need to introduce a culture vaccine 16-30 days after birth.
Until three weeks of age, the drug is injected under the skin, and after 21 days - intramuscularly. The next inoculation is done 3-4 weeks later, and the third - 140 days after birth.
Vaccination against erysipelas
This disease occurs in piglets quite often. Infectious disease gives the animals a strong pain and can affect their skin. A hidden infection is able to go into open form at any time. Often the virus of this disease is spread by flies. To prevent an outbreak of the disease, use a dry vaccine from strain BP-2.
The first vaccination is performed 60 days after birth and 1 ml of the vaccine is injected by intramuscular injection. Re-immune drug is used after 30 days. The same preventive measures should be carried out when animals reach eight months of age.
During an outbreak of the disease, piglets must first be isolated, and then perform forced vaccination, not taking into account the timing of the previous vaccination.
After using the drug in animals, the temperature may rise sharply, as well as lethargy and loss of appetite. In this case, treatment is not required, and all the symptoms will go away on their own.
On day 10 of age, the piglets are given a vaccine to prevent rachitis. This drug includes calcium and sodium components. In addition to grafting, babies can add fish oil, shell, limestone and chalk to their daily diet. They are mixed with animals in feed or injected into the mouth with a spoon or syringe without a needle.
In addition to preventive measures against rickets, special mercury-quartz lamps are used. These devices are designed to destroy a variety of viral infections in a pig or in its environment.
Such quartz treatment is applied upon reaching the ten-day age. For the full course you need to spend 7 procedures, for a good effect is required to do it every other day. As an integrated measure, vitamin preparations can also be added to the diet of animals.
Prevention of colibacillosis disease
Colibacteriosis is an acutely occurring disease from which pigs often die. For preventive measures used polyvalent serum. This substance is administered to animals in the amount of 9-10 ml 5 days after birth, and 10-15 ml are injected into piglets that are older than five days of age.
As an antiparasitic agent, after 2 and 3 months of birth, the young need to be prickled "Ivermek" - a drug that has low toxicity and excellent therapeutic efficacy at a low dosage. The piglets are injected into the cervical region, independently calculating the required dosage (1 ml of product per 33 kg). Read more in the article "Application ivermeka for pigs."
After 50, 57 and 60 days, experts recommend introducing PDE, a tissue preparation made from human placenta and allowing to significantly increase the safety of piglets, in young individuals. This substance is used for preventive measures against diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Vaccination against foot and mouth disease and encephalitis
For prevention, after the pigs reach two months of age, they can be given vaccination against foot and mouth disease. Owners of pig farms should first consult with the doctor about the procedure, since the vaccine is not included in the mandatory vaccination plan.
For the injection is used the drug "Immunolactan". Animals that are less than 3 months old need to inject 0.4 mg, and older pigs require a dose of 0.1 mg per kg of weight. Piglets suffer from foot and mouth disease rarely enough, but they often die when they become infected.
2 months after birth, the young need an injection of encephalitis vaccine. This injection is not included in the general scheme of vaccinations; therefore, farmers themselves determine if there is a need for a shot. To achieve an effective result from the vaccine, it should be applied once. Animals with age from 30 days to 3 years can get encephalitis.
Prevention of salmonellosis
Vaccination of piglets from salmonella is of particular importance, because the pathogen provokes serious consequences for animals. This disease is most often diagnosed in small individuals who are particularly susceptible to infection in the winter.
Due to the high degree of contagion, salmonellosis quickly acquires an acute form of development and leads to various pathologies of the pig's digestive and respiratory systems.
Salmonella vaccination is done on piglets 3 weeks after birth. Used vaccine for piglets can also prevent the occurrence of streptococcosis and pasteurellosis. The vaccine for these diseases consists of two potent substances.
The first of them, PPD, is given to animals in the amount of 4 g per one individual, and after 7 days, vaccination is repeated in the same dosage. The second substance - ATP - is administered intramuscularly for one week at the rate of 2 ml per pig. After a month's term, an injection is made in the amount of 4 ml of the solution.
Without timely scheduled vaccinations, the management of each pig farm will not be sufficiently effective. 10 days before insemination, the Ivermek drug should be injected into the female. This tool is used for lice, worms, hypodermic gadfly. This drug is also used for preventive measures against certain skin diseases.
For every 6 months, sows are vaccinated against erysipelas and once a year they give a vaccine against plague. Females can be added to the daily ration of vitamin preparations Imultivit, Aminovital, Chiktonik. If you are interested in information about beneficial trace elements for animals, be sure to read the article "On vitamins for pigs and piglets."
Pregnant sows 45 days before the expected birth must be vaccinated against salmonellosis and, after 10 days, be immunized again. 30 days before the farrowing of a pregnant female, it is necessary to inject a vaccine against swine erysipelas. For high-quality colostral immunity in piglets to sows for 21 and 17 days before the end of the term of gestation, inactivated vaccination is administered twice.
After farrowing, no vaccinations are made to the animal.
In order to create the conditions under which piglets will be less susceptible to viral diseases, farmers need to ensure optimum cleanliness and temperature conditions in the room, as well as proper ventilation.
