Let's see why a bull has a nose ring. Not for beauty. Tribal males can sometimes be very capricious. In addition, they have enormous strength, power, and just weight, which makes them uncontrollable. Often this is a serious problem when dealing with them. It has long been observed that the representatives of cattle have several of the most sensitive points on the body. These include the ears, eyes, and nose of animals. This feature began to be used in farms to tame the obstinate.
Causes and features of use
The bulls, aged 6-12 months, are inserted into the nose ring. Work with such animals is carried out with maximum caution. Bull piercing is carried out for the following reasons:
- facilitate the process of caring for animals;
- it is easier to carry out any veterinary treatment with a breeding male with a nose ring;
- Such a measure helps prevent accidents and injuries to people and animals.
The bull with a ring in the nose is easier to take for a walk and get to go in the right direction.
Piercing allows you to conduct a veterinary examination or medical treatment in relative safety. Professionals who care for the bulls, is strictly prohibited to use physical force or scream. This approach is impossible to achieve humility, but on the contrary, the mighty giant will only get angry.
Since the nose is a pain point of cattle, this feature has been used to control animals. The nasal septum separating the nostrils of the bull is punctured and a special ring is inserted into it. Now, just pull the piercing, and the mighty giant becomes docile and gentle.
Of course, such a method may seem somewhat cruel, but to cope with an adult, wayward animal otherwise is simply impossible. Such a measure not only helps to avoid trouble, but also often prevents injury to both man and the animal itself. Abuse this practice is not worth it. Better to breed a male from a very young age to grow up in a calm atmosphere and to treat him tenderly, then he will be more docile and less aggressive.
As a rule, adult producers are kept and walk separately from cows. For them equip special sites, equipped in accordance with the strength and power of these animals. Bulls can be tied or unbound. But when carrying out any manipulations, manufacturers must be securely fixed.
"Piercing" under duress
Ring in the nose put already grown bull. To carry out this procedure it is worth contacting a competent specialist - a veterinarian. The selected ring should be reliable. It is important to take a model with a smooth surface, no burrs. It is usually equipped with a hinge and lock, which is secured with a rivet and screw.
The vet reliably fixes the head of the bull so that he cannot move it. Then, a trocar pierces the nasal septum, slides a ring, clamps it with forceps and closes the lock. After disinfection, the wound is left alone for 10 days. At this time, it should be periodically inspected and, if necessary, further treated with antiseptics. After 10 days, the wound is usually healed and the animal can begin to be led behind the ring. So that it does not cause the bull inconvenience, it is lifted up and fixed in this position, tied up with a rope on the strap on the horns.
The calf can also be pierced. But here the owners pursue another goal - to separate it from the udder.
For calves, they use a more gentle technique - the clip ring. For him, you do not need to pierce the nose, just enough to fix it.
To understand why babies are ringed with clips, just look at them. This model is equipped with spikes and removed as soon as it is no longer necessary. The cow feels pain when the calf tries to suck the udder, avoids and beats off from it.
