About cattle humus

You live in a rural area, keep cattle, and you want to understand what efficient and competent processing of cattle manure is in order to profit from waste-free production. A prudent and economical owner will do so, because if the waste management of cows and bulls is carried out correctly, you will get excellent fertilizers to feed the soil, which will undoubtedly bring you income. In this article we will give some tips and show you what important steps in this direction should be done.

Properties of waste products

Manure refers to a mixture of animal waste (excrement) with bedding, water, feed debris, that is, all the components that fall into the manure removal systems.

The composition of this substance is very rich in nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and other elements, so its use as a fertilizer for feeding the soil is so effective.

Due to the high content of microelements, when ingested and mixed with the soil, manure wastes form a fertile layer that promotes excellent plant growth.

One of the most common is manure, which gives the cow. However, you can apply and horse, which is considered the best, as well as pig, rabbit and chicken dung. Significant differences in the composition of the material can be explained by different species of animals and their conditions of detention, feed and drink. The average manure output from 1 head of cattle is about 55 kg per day, while calves give 15-26 kg per day, depending on age.

Types of manure

There are two types of substance. The first one is litter, that is, it is mixed animal waste together with litter, which can be peat or straw. The second is clean or bespattery, that is, not having impurities.

It is better to use the litter, because it contains more fiber and useful substances to increase the fertility of the soil.

The bed consisting of peat helps to absorb harmful substances, such as ammonia, and accelerates chemical reactions inside the manure. Straw bedding contains less nitrogen, but also has beneficial properties.

With the use of manure increases the amount of humus - this is the most important organic part of the fertile soil. Every farmer strives for the growth of this substance in the soil, as it is a guarantee of a good harvest.

But when the cattle dung is fresh, its distribution over the soil will lead to dire consequences. Since at this time a lot of chemical reactions occur in the waste, their release simply poisons the soil, therefore it is absolutely impossible to do this. Before using, manure wastes are necessarily processed or turned into compost and are kept for a certain amount of time.

Storage and processing methods

Humus obtained from cattle manure is the most valuable material that is used to fertilize the soil.

However, to get it from fresh waste, it usually takes a period of 2 to 12 months.

Storage Types:

  • cold way;
  • anaerobic;
  • biothermal disinfection.

The simplest option, when the waste of cattle is folded into separate small piles of 2x2 m and left for several months to get rid of oxygen and harmful bacteria, is called cold.

With the anaerobic method of storage, the manure is put in one pile, after the temperature inside is increased to 70 degrees, the first layer is compacted and a new one is put on top. The height of the growing heap can be 2 m.

For the biothermal method, a 1.5x2 m pit with walls plastered with clay is needed. At its bottom lay a layer of already recycled material, then a layer of fresh, and on top of thatch or earth. This process makes it possible to increase the temperature inside the compost heap and to obtain a highly nourishing and necessary substance - humus.

Even if you do not need a large output of manure and getting fertilizer out of it, you must recycle it before disposal, so as not to poison the soil with harmful substances. This is done by composting a fresh substance in order to enable it to burn out and become safe.

To form a compost pile, it is necessary to mix the liquid manure with foliage, hay or peat, and fold it into so-called piles, constantly maintaining moisture in them. Thus, the temperature will rise, and the harmful bacteria will die.

There are also other methods of processing and disposal, for example, with the help of Californian worms or by introducing beneficial bacteria that multiply, process the material and deprive it of smell and harmful impurities.

So, we told you how, with a skillful approach, to make your farm waste-free and profitable, just knowing how to properly and wisely use pet waste.
