In order not to spend money on the finished machine for fixing animals, you need to study our instructions, which will tell you how to do a split for cattle with your own hands. So called a special frame or box to limit the mobility of the cow. It is indispensable for the inspection, treatment or treatment of livestock. Ready-made machines are expensive, they need to be ordered, any revision to the needs of the customer only increases the cost. Easier, cheaper and more convenient to make such a device yourself.

How does the split

In order to inspect an animal without interference, to vaccinate it or to carry out another necessary procedure, it must be separated from the herd and fixed. The fixed position facilitates the work of the veterinarian or animal science, does not allow the cattle to harm themselves or people.

The split is set in the passage through which the cows move, and separate one individual from the herd. The easiest option is a frame for fixation. The animal passes into the opened frame, after which it presses the lever, and the flaps close, and the neck clamp securely and securely fixes the neck. It is better if it is adjustable in width. Above you can add an additional lever, completely immobilizing the head.

The legs are fixed with belts or clamps. A special wicket at the back blocks the other cows. After that, you can begin treatment, birking or other procedures. More complex design is a box.

The design and dimensions of the split box

The size of the box must match the size of the cattle for which it is intended. As a rule, it is 2-3.5 m in length, 1-1.5 m in width, and in height - about 2 m.

Split is made:

  • from steel pipes;
  • from a bar.

Split from a bar will be cheaper, it is easier to make, but it is not as strong and durable as welded.

Dimensions and installation of the split should provide free access to the animal from behind and from the sides.

When installing the machine in the room, take care of additional lighting.

The split is installed in the aisle permanently or bolted to make it portable. Metal fixation device can additionally be made collapsible. It will be convenient to transport and assemble again at the place where it is needed. This is useful when a herd spends part of the time on grazing.

The materials from which the split is made, and its design should not accidentally injure the animal.

We make ourselves a wooden machine

A wooden split is made of a durable 100x100 or 150x150 mm timber in the form of a rectangular box with two wickets. In front, swing, cut out a recess for the neck. The back gate, which separates the animal from the herd, must be closed with a lock. For additional fixation of the legs, rope loops or straps are used, which are attached to the upper ribs of the split.

You can also use metal or wooden cleats, staves that block the hind legs of a cow and do not allow it to beat. Bars should be treated to prevent accidental injury to the animal. If the split is in the open air, soak it in special weatherproof formulations.

We use metal

To make a metal split with your own hands, you can weld several shaped pipes 60x40x3 or 40x40x3 mm (round ones with a diameter of 8-10 cm) so that a rectangular pen of 1x2 m in size is obtained.

Strengthen it by adding a few more pipes along the long side in order to give the structure stability and rigidity. Provide free access from the sides: weld opening panels or grilles.

Equip the short sides of the box with wickets. The back can be swing or sliding, but always with a strong constipation.

The front gate must have a notch for the neck clamp. Weld strap lugs for fixing additional belts that can be missed under the belly of a cow. This will help raise it if necessary and keep it in limbo. Strip and paint the box.
