The question of when cows come into the hunt after calving is not as straightforward as it seems. On the one hand, there are textbook dogmas, and on the other hand, it must be borne in mind that the cows are not all the same. In some, hunting can be traced clearly, and they are reduced without problems. Others are quiet and walk around very often. Accordingly, fertilization does not occur on time or does not occur at all. Next, we analyze the main ways to determine the hunt of a cow, and you already decide which one suits you best.
When is it better to drive a cow
Cows are polycyclic mammals. On average, the cycle of a healthy cow lasts about three weeks. Hunting often comes at night, but guarding it with a bull at the ready is not worth it. The fact is that it is better to seed a normal cow on the second or even the third day. In the first two days after the beginning of the process, despite the visual signs, the animal is not yet ready for fertilization.
If a cow is healthy, the hunt lasts up to 3-5 days and is divided into three stages:
- the process only begins to manifest itself and is not always noticeable, lasts about a day;
- excitement is clearly visible, but it is early to drive a cow, it lasts 24-36 hours;
- the third stage is the time when the cow that came to hunt should take the seed lasts from 7 to 20 hours.
At the initial stage, the Burenka wanders around the corral like a lost one. Can moo for no reason and stand on other cows, sometimes butting. Vaginal lips swell, mucus is low.
The second stage of the most noticeable, excited cow becomes affectionate and embodies love. Burenka licks everybody, and freezes when a bull appears. Highlight clear and abundant.
At the third stage, the cow is not active, she stands rooted to the ground and is waiting for the bull. Vaginal discharge becomes pink, sometimes brown and thick.
Determination of temperature hunting
Regular and daily measurement of temperature can indicate that the cow has come into the hunt. When ovulation occurs, the temperature of burenk rises by 2-3 decimal degrees, compared with previous days.
To measure the temperature of cattle using a special thermometer, which is inserted into the rectum of the animal. Those who do not like this procedure can measure the temperature in freshly made milk. But in this case, the result is less accurate.
Measurements begin two weeks after the last hunt or calving. Thermometry is a good thing, but still it is more suitable for calves who have not given birth. In experienced cows, the increase in temperature is determined by hunting only in 25% of cases.
The method of thermometry is suitable only for absolutely healthy animals, in which previous genera have passed easily and without complications, otherwise any indisposition can be taken as the start of the hunt.
This method is considered perhaps the oldest and most reliable. A young male accurately determines the beginning of estrus in cows. Due to their nature or breed characteristics, the beginning of estrus is not visually manifested in quite healthy cows.
So, such a bull does not need external manifestations of the body of a cow; the male feels the beginning of estrus by smell. Vaginal discharge during the hunt has a peculiar smell and a good smell, he feels it immediately.
Only big farms can afford such pleasure. Probe bull groomed and cherished. But, despite such a privileged position, it is not allowed to be inseminated.
The probe is driven to the cows twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, two hours before the start of the milking. He does his work no more than an hour. To prevent unplanned conceptions, probe probes are blocked by seed probes.
Method of pedometry
With the advent of pedometers, or, more simply, pedometers, breeders quickly adopted them. When a cow "walks", it moves more. And it is absolutely unimportant whether it is grazing on a meadow during the day or in a small pen. The number of steps with the beginning of the hunt is approximately doubled.
To determine the beginning of ovulation, you need to know how much the Burenka "pulls" during walks. The device on the body of the animal is installed a week before estrus. The data is taken daily, after which the average for 3-4 days is displayed. Having these numbers on hand, you will immediately notice the discrepancy and determine the hunt from the first day.
The device can be attached to the cow leg or collar. But breeders recommend forget about the collar immediately. With such measurements there is a rather large error. After all, any turn of the head is perceived as a step.
A pedometer is cheaper than keeping a probe. But if you equip a large herd with pedometers, it will cost you a pretty penny. The price of the device starts from 2500 rubles.
Ampoule with dye
There is another fairly simple, and most importantly a cheap way to determine the hunt of cows. A small ampoule with bright paint is attached to the back of the cow with a special glue.
Jump on a bull, a cow can only allow during ovulation. Accordingly, if your burenka comes from the pasture with a spot on her back, it means that she started estrus, and she let the bull to her.
According to statistics, this method gives up to 92% performance. But incidents happen here, another cow can crush the ampulla. After all, being in a state of hunting, cows often lay their heads on the back of their fellows.
In addition, in many large farms, after the return from the pasture, the herd passes through the so-called car wash. Devices simply rip off the vial of paint from the cow.
What can prevent hunting
Rapid reproduction of the herd and obtaining high yields or weight gain on meat is a priority task of any farm. But when planning, we should not forget about the cow itself. When a cow comes to hunt after the birth, she must be healthy, otherwise the animal will not be able to carry a normal calf.
One of the main indicators of a cow's readiness for a regular pregnancy is weight. Even veterinarians are not needed here, because if a cow does not gain the necessary weight within a month after calving, then it is useless to wait for the renewal of the hunt. This means that the animal's body has not yet recovered.
About a week after giving birth, a cow needs to be checked for endometritis. This is especially important if there was a afterbirth delay of more than 10 hours. After another week, the veterinarian should examine the oviducts and, in general, the entire gynecology of the animal.
If everything is normal, then the first hunt should occur in the interval of 20-30 days after calving. Healthy bore can be covered already in the first hunt.
What threatens to skip hunting
The interstitial period should ideally not exceed 12-13 months. The pregnancy takes 285 days, plus postpartum recovery. The maximum allowable break between calving and new pregnancy is 90 days. A period of new hunting after the birth of a calf comes in a cow in a month, with allowable fluctuations in both directions for 10 days.
Many owners in excessive attempts to optimize the time of childbirth delay this period. And then they wonder why a cow cannot come to the hunt on time or cannot get pregnant. Prolonged absences of hunting threaten with inflammation of the reproductive system and even infertility.
Many ways to determine the hunt of cows have made the lives of breeders much easier.
