Such a phenomenon as white discharge from a cow does not always talk about any problems with the health of the animal. This may well be a sign of the normal development of the animal: to warn of estrus, pregnancy or a recent hotel of the cow. But a good owner should always be interested in the state of animal health and in advance to prevent infection with any diseases. Therefore, with strange excretions in cows, it is better to consult a veterinarian.

Transparent vaginal exudates

At the very beginning of estrus, a cow may experience a viscous transparent discharge resembling mucus, accompanied by a peculiar odor. This suggests that the cow is in good physical condition and is ready for fertilization. Toward the end of estrus, discharge may become cloudy and thicker.

Similar exudates stand out from the cow's vagina a few hours before calving. However, after childbirth, no discharge should be: they can be a sign of the beginning inflammation of the internal genital organs and require immediate treatment.

Perhaps during the first two months of pregnancy and the appearance of sticky mucus hanging down a thin cord. However, in its absence, there is no need to worry, since this phenomenon is observed only in 80% of pregnant cows. Usually colorless mucus is practically non-hazardous to health.

White discharge from the vulva and udder

Whitish fluid or mucus from the animal's vagina after insemination may indicate infection from a bull with any kind of infection, most often, vaginitis. This phenomenon was described in detail in the article "Discharge after insemination."

A white secret released from the vagina that is not associated with a covering or pregnancy may indicate the presence of a hormonal malfunction in the animal’s body or become a sign of beginning endometritis.

Endometritis is considered to be the main cause of unusual vaginal discharge in cows. This medical term is called inflammation of the mucous membrane of the uterus after calving. The disease begins to manifest itself a few days after birth. From the vagina of the cow appears mucus, the color of which varies from white to brown, its number increases with each passing day.

With endometritis, there is also bloody discharge. Why they appear and how to treat them is described in detail in the article "Bloodstained from cows."

During pregnancy, a white viscous liquid can be released from the cow's udder. This is the so-called colostrum. Thus, the body of a pregnant cow prepares for the birth of a calf. Colostrum can be released several times, usually in small quantities.

Multiple allocation of white in pregnant individuals become a signal to the farmer about the upcoming hotel.

Purulent whites in cows

During sexual hunting, some cows appear yellowish-purulent uterine discharge. They are a sign of a very serious gynecological disease - chronic endometritis. This pathology is almost impossible to heal completely - from time to time it can manifest itself even with regular therapy.

With purulent-catarrhal endometritis, the nature of the exudate is viscous, there is an unpleasant odor. The color of the discharge varies from yellow to brown. Gray blotches, tissue particles and blood fragments are possible. With the deepening of inflammation mixed with pus.

In general, almost all of the discharge, stained yellow, or interspersed with pus, is referred to as manifestations of any form of endometritis, but sometimes the yellow color of the discharge may indicate hypothermia or gynecological problems. Most often, purulent exudate becomes a sign of infection.

First aid for unusual discharge

Treatment of inflammation requires patience and perseverance, as it can sometimes be very long. One of the best medicines is rightly called a 3% solution of alum with the addition of pyoctanine (blue) at a concentration of 1%. This solution should be lubricated with the vagina of the cow every day or irrigated from the so-called women's cup.

It is also recommended to wash the birth canal of the cow with a very weak solution of manganese-acid potassium (slightly pink).

With the appearance of unusual secretions in cows, it is necessary to disinfect the room more often, since the irritated mucous membrane of the vagina and uterus is most susceptible to diseases.

Prevention of gynecological diseases

It is important to follow the cow during the hunt. Do not allow:

  • injuries;
  • contact with sick animals;
  • exacerbations of chronic and undertreated diseases;
  • poor care

A regular examination of pregnant cows by a veterinarian is necessary. Moreover, it is better if the doctor does not change throughout the pregnancy. After giving birth, it is necessary to periodically inspect the animal for postpartum infections.

An important role is also played by a properly formulated diet. During pregnancy, it is recommended to inject intramuscularly vitamin complexes. This will help prevent purulent and inflammatory processes. Organic mineral supplements should be added to the concentrated feed. The micro and macronutrients contained in them will have a positive effect on the immunity of the cow, and hence on her health.

An important role is played by the observance of sanitary and epidemiological norms in the economy. Poor animal conditions can lead to many unpleasant diseases.

In no case should not judge the presence of a cow of any disease for only one discharge. The organism of each animal is individual and has its own specificity, therefore, what may be a clear sign of a disease in one cow is the absolute norm in another.

But if there are suspicions about the state of health of the animal, it is best to contact the veterinarian for advice and conduct the necessary examinations.
