Plymouthrock is a breed of chickens, which from the first days of its existence has interested poultry farmers all over the world. With this, every breeder or farmer tried to add something new to the standard. That is why today there are three types of these chickens: American, English and Russian. Our Plymouth Broketers have raised more than one generation of domestic hens.
Breed of hens Plymouthrock belongs to meat and egg or universal type. Although, judging by their appearance, they are often referred to as meat breeds. This is not surprising, because Brama, Cochinchin and Dominican chickens were involved in the selection work. And these specimens, as is well known, are famous for their large size and stocky forms.
Plymouthrock was withdrawn and received in America, but very soon spread throughout the world. English breeders have made their contribution, adding to the breed improved egg qualities. In 1911, this breed appeared in Russia, and for the first time a single standard was set for it. The striped variety of Plymouthrocks later gave rise to the development of domestic Soviet poultry farming, and on its basis many breeds were obtained.
As we have said, the Plymouthrock chickens are representatives of a large breed. The birds are distinguished by a fairly weighty broad body, rather big head with a strong beak and a leaf-like crest. The real decoration of the breed is bright red ear lobes, oval earrings and a wide, convex chest. Chickens, like young ladies, when walking a little raise the breast because of what creates the effect of a proud posture.
Also this breed has a very wide massive back, raised small tail, thick plumage, especially in the neck area. As for color diversity, in our country in industry only white Plymouthrocks are used, while private breeders use the most popular color for striped breeders. Also there are chickens gray, fawn, black and grouse.
Chickens of this breed are initially dark in color and have a distinctive white spot on the head. Just by this congenital sign in the daily age of the hens from the cockerels. In females, such a speck is bright and clearly defined, while in males, it is blurred and pale. Feathers in young appear late, by about 5-6 weeks. Fertilization of eggs at breeding is 98%, and the safety and survival of offspring is about 96%. And this is a very high indicator of a good breed.
This breed is the most popular and, as many believe, the most beautiful. In adult layers, gray stripes have a slightly lilac shade, and also wider than stripes in a rooster. In roosters, the color of the outer feathers is slightly lighter than in chickens, and a clearer pattern is also traced.
