How to make a sheepdog for the sheep?

The key to success in breeding sheep is a good place to keep them. We will tell you how to make a sheep-house for the sheep with your own hands, and what materials will be needed for this. Read on for our review with photos and note ideas!

What should be the sheepfold?

Sheepfold should be, first of all, closed from drafts. Despite the fact that the sheep perfectly perceive the cold and almost do not feel it because of the thick wool, the room should keep the temperature from 5 to 9 degrees Celsius. In winter there should be no more than 12 degrees. The larger the flock, the more places will be needed - for each sheep a separate plot. Usually, a sheepdog is built from adobe, bricks, cinder blocks or a wide variety of materials.

It is not necessary to warm the walls, but here it is necessary to eliminate the gaps, gaps. If you live in regions where evil winters are rare, a covered shed is enough, which is always dry. But if in winter time there is a lot of snow in your region or it often rains, the room for the sheep should be full, warm, with tightly locked doors and windows without cracks. Young, not lambed sheep and valukha are kept in cooler rooms than, for example, pregnant queens.

By the way, the room where newborn lambs are kept should be the warmest. Usually it is closed on all sides, with a dense bedding. The floor in this area of the sheepfold is better to make wood. In general, the wooden floor is always raised above the surface of the earth, thus, it turns out that the room is on low piles. This is a guarantee of keeping warm even in winter. Inside the room put the stove with the sleeves stretching along the inner perimeter.

Sheepfold should be convenient for ventilation and cleaning - no uncomfortable corners or areas where you can not get up to its full height. Even if there are only a few sheep, it is better that the area is spacious - the sheep do not like cramping and start to get sick. The following video shows the structure of the winter and autumn sheep-houses in the Volgograd region.

Instructions for making

If you are building a sheep house with your own hands, involve your relatives and possibly friends who already have construction experience in the construction. We'll have to sort out a lot of literature, but in general the process is simple. Our tips will also help you in this process. All construction is divided into the creation of the foundation, setting and covering of the frame, the lining of the rafters and the sheathing, as well as the laying of the roof, the installation of doors and the anti-winding system. The final stage is the interior.

As an example, we consider the construction of a wooden room for sheep with their own hands. To do this, you need the following tools:

  • electric jigsaw;
  • electric plane;
  • machine for processing wood (or finished machined boards);
  • a circular saw;
  • electric drill and screwdriver;
  • chain Saw;
  • different sizes of boards, logs (dimensions are measured individually based on the number of sheep);
  • roofing material or other material for the roof - tiles, slate;
  • fasteners: ordinary nails of different sizes, angles, screws, dowels, roofing nails;
  • chisel;
  • marking tape;
  • rope, hammer, ax, pliers.

Additional finishing materials are included in a separate list, but the most necessary of them are:

  • plaster;
  • buckets;
  • brushes for painting and whitewashing;
  • light bulbs;
  • switches;
  • sockets;
  • oven for internal heating;
  • pipes;
  • cranes;
  • household equipment.

Accordingly, if it is planned to build a barn from a brick, the number and type of materials will differ significantly. An average of one and a half square meters is required for one sheep, and up to three square meters for an uterus with lambs. The height of the sheepdog - no more than two meters. To make the room as comfortable and warm as possible, equip the vestibule and warm the doors. So much of the cold air in winter will remain outside.

Manufacturing process

The side of the sheep house should be facing south. The width of the room is at least 10 meters, and the length is based on the number of heads (for a flock of one hundred individuals at least 200 meters). If the building has the shape of the letter P or G, the open part of it, along with the yard, is always located on the sunny side. The yard area itself should be at least twice as large as the closed part of the sheepfold.

The foundation for the sheepfold is done in different ways. The most durable is a concrete foundation or concrete columns, on which a wooden room will be built. A brick shepherd is built on a concrete foundation in the same way as a regular shed, with a slight slope of 2-3 cm for waste drainage. The foundation is made by marking with the help of a tape measure, pegs and a hammer. The territory is marked up, pegs are driven in to see the territory as a whole.

Wooden frame

When the foundation is poured (steel pins are pre-inserted into the columns), waterproofing is placed on it. Then, on top of the insulation, a parallel beam is fastened onto the steel corners, onto which the wooden frame of the walls is fastened. The tree must be treated fire-bio protection. After that proceed to the decoration of the walls.

Sheathing of the wall frame is carried out with various materials. Most often - a profiled board, clapboard or siding. The interior of the walls of the room can be insulated with mineral wool or other materials - this will be your anti-wind system.

Further, the roof is formed according to the standard principle: transverse beams are made of wood, and longitudinal planks are placed on top of them. After that, the roof is covered with corrugated board, tile or slate. Make an attic or not - decide for yourself.

Windows, doors and other details

The doors to the barn should be comfortable so that several sheep can easily enter by walking nearby. Also, the doors must be wide open in the summer for airing. It is better to make a double gate with hinges (width 2 m).

The windows in the sheepfold are located at a height of 1.5 meters from the floor. The sizes of windows can be small, but they should give good illumination. The approximate dimensions of the window are 1, 5 m in height and not less than 1 m in width. The following photo clearly shows how often windows are located in a building.

Feeders are formed at the rate of 35 cm length per sheep. The height of the feeders should be at least 80 cm. The best option is longitudinal feeders along the entire length of the barrier supports, each sheep has its own.

Drinking bowls are better to take as large as the sheep can drink more than 10 liters of water per day. On average, one hundred sheep will require ten drinking bowls with dimensions of 1600x480x460 mm and volumes of 90 liters each.

The hood in the sheepfold is made in the form of a wide pipe at a distance of at least 30 cm from the floor or under the ceiling (the diameter of the hood is at least 50 cm or 14 inches). If there are several rooms with sheep, each one is equipped with a separate exhaust pipe. Heating is put in such a way as to be regulated by power. Sometimes inside the sheepfolds they put a stove that is heated with coal or wood or a gas boiler, but this last option is the most expensive.
