Interesting vitamin supplementation of livestock in winter

Hello. Can you please tell me if needles are good for livestock? If so, what exactly and in what form should it be given? I keep in the household of chickens, a couple of pigs and two cows. And in winter it is very difficult to maintain the right diet, there is a strong lack of vitamins.

Good day. In winter, both large and small cattle, birds and other animals on the farm need vitamins more than ever. The fact of the matter is that in the summer the cattle get them from the lush green grass, but in the winter they are not. Some vitamins can be replaced by root vegetables, and some will have to buy in the form of powder supplements. But it is possible, under certain conditions, to go another way. But how exactly, we will look further in the article.

Is there an ideal dressing?

The search for new vitamin carriers led scientists to the needles. In search of factors that could impede the giving of needles in animal feed, many studies have been conducted. One of these studies was led by Professor I. S. Popov. According to the results that he published, needles in nutritional value even surpass the grass. It is much more protein, fat and extractives. But in the ash content, it is slightly inferior to the grass.

Data from other laboratory studies of this product confirmed the high nutritional value and readability of green needles. As a dressing you can use needles of pine and spruce. One kilogram of green product from pine contains:

  • carotene - from 60 to 130 mg;
  • vitamin C - about 30 g;
  • vitamin K - 20 ml;
  • vitamin B2 - 5 ml.

The needles ate the amount of nutrients slightly lower, namely:

  • carotene - from 60 to 120 mg;
  • vitamin C - about 25 g;
  • vitamin K - 12 ml;
  • vitamin B2 - 5 ml.

At the same time, vitamin A (carotene) in such feed is several times more than in carrots. Therefore, it is the cheapest substitute for this vitamin. Also, this food contains many trace elements, including cobalt, copper, iron, zinc, manganese, sodium, calcium, potassium, etc. Still, one should not forget about a large amount of essential oils, resinous substances and phytoncides that beneficially affect the intestinal microflora. But just because of the oils and resins, one cannot give large quantities of needles for one-time. Abundant feeding can even harm animals.

Vitamins in the diet of animals

For a number of experiments, the usefulness of this feed for various cattle was determined. So the daily cottage to 200 g of needles in feed for pigs increased their average weight gain by 15-35%. In chickens, this supplement perfectly stimulates growth and is the prevention of vitamin deficiency. It is also a great vitamin source for laying hens. Only 5 g of ground green needles replace the daily rate of carrots laying hens, which becomes 25 g. And in winter, this feed for birds is simply priceless.

Also green needles are an excellent vitamin supplement for sheep. For them, the daily rate should not exceed 250 grams with a live weight of an animal of 40 kg. Pine needles will bring inestimable value if it is given to feed and cattle. As you can see, there is more than enough benefit from such food, and with all this, if you look at it, needles are the cheapest vitamin complex. What to do if there are no pines or trees near you? Then you can buy seedlings and plant on your site. Specialized stores, such as, are perfect for this.

Here you can not only make a purchase, but also get advice on planting and caring for the acquired plant. If you do not want to buy anything, you can go into the forest and dig a young seedling. But it is worth remembering that the roots without the ground can not be left and plant a tree, too, need to forest land. Then pine grows poorly near human habitation, therefore it is recommended to plant only spruce.
