What if the chicken makes strange sounds? When you inhale, it gurgles. What should we do? (Maria)
Gurgling sounds at chickens can talk about two problems: either something with a goiter or an infectious disease. Carefully inspect the throat of the bird, feel the goiter, if there are seals, fluids and other "abnormalities". If everything is good in this regard, then most likely this symptom is caused by an infectious disease. There may also be a cold, but in this case other symptoms should be observed. For example, discharge from the nose, eyes, and so on.
As for diseases, gurgling in the throat often occurs with infectious laryngotracheitis. At the same time, the chicken opens its beak wide, shakes its head, eats poorly, coughs and stifles. If wheezing or whistling sounds appear, the problem is no longer in the trachea, but in the bronchi. For example, there may be bronchitis, infection of the lungs, infection with nematodes.
What to do? First of all, isolate the sick individual from all others. It is necessary to take a course with an antibiotic, for example, use Baytril or Enroxin. Ascorbic acid is required at the rate of 0.5 g per kg of feed. Observe the bird, there may be some other symptoms. In this case, it will be possible to more accurately determine the disease.
