The neighbor has been keeping chickens for a long time and is constantly adding broken glass, claiming that hens are less ill. Is it true? (Sergei)

The fact that people give their poultry broken glass (and not only chickens), I have long heard. But I personally did not conduct such an experiment myself in my household. The fact is that it is necessary to carefully prick the bottles so that there are no sharp pieces and edges. And this is quite difficult to do and in this form they can damage the walls of the stomach of the layers. To do this, the material is specially heated in a furnace, and then cooled sharply in very cold water.

Glass is given in cases where it is not possible to get sand, small pebbles, a shell.

Many may say that glass is also made from sand. But the natural material itself is no substitute. Moreover, modern production often adds various impurities to the composition. To give or not - in any case, of course, it's up to you. But I advise you to find a safer option for feeding (pebbles, shells) and not risk it.

I will also note a moment that the glass in the intestines of the bird is not digested. This is proved by the practice when chickens or geese themselves found small pieces while walking. So, in their food system, they look like sea pebbles when cut. But in any case, they remain inside.
